When we set up Emerald Starfish over 10 years ago, we wanted to do recruitment differently. We loved recruitment and making a difference for our candidates as well as our clients. Getting candidates on the next step on their career ladder, an increased salary and a new opportunity to learn new skills. 
We felt that there was a mismatch though, working in a recruitment agency we were working for the candidates – trying to get them the best salary, selling them in against other candidates, but the client was paying the bill. 
At Emerald Starfish we wanted to bring the focus to the client – to understand what they need for their next position, and to make sure that all of their time wasn’t taken up testing and assessing candidates and paying us for the pleasure! 
To be most effective we decided not to have a pool of candidates to “sell” to our clients but to go out to the market for every position that we work on. You won’t be seeing candidates that other clients have rejected. We advertise for our positions as if we are our clients too – all of our adverts (unless we are doing some covert headhunting!) are branded and so candidates know exactly who they are applying for. We also interview all suitable candidates on behalf of our clients – not a generic interview around salary and notice period but a proper full interview around values, competencies, experience – based on what the client wants. So, all of our clients have some valuable information before they see any of our candidates. 
Once the advert has been signed off, we do all of the work up to the point of handing over the shortlist of candidates for the client interviews, and we will continue to book your interviews for our clients and support you right up to offer stage. 
We fix our price at the start of each project too, so if you decide that you want to go with a more expensive candidate you don’t also need to increase our fee expectation too. This means that we can advise you properly on salary negotiation, there is nothing in it for us! Typically, we will save our clients between £2,000 – 12,000 on typical recruitment fees. 
We also work closely to represent our client’s brand. Our philosophy is that every candidate, whether successful or not should have a great experience. For some of our client’s candidates may be customers. We keep everyone informed throughout the process. Candidates will get proper communication throughout and everyone who has had an interview will be offered constructive feedback for their next application.
