The Importance of Employer Branding

Employer branding is the process of managing and influencing your reputation as an employer.
It encompasses everything you do to position your organisation as an employer of choice and relates to your Employer Value Proposition – Why would candidates choose to work for your company?
Employer branding is vital to keep your current workforce engaged but also to ensure you attract the best candidates for your future vacancies.
Let’s look at 3 simple ways you can improve your employer branding.
1. Improve your on-line presence and company profile
Good candidates will research your company and the messages on your website need to be clear and positive.
Candidates will want to know more about what your company does, the size of the company, its history and the company’s vision. Consider using videos to demonstrate what your company does and maybe a tour of the business.
If your company is a great place to work, make sure your website portrays this message.
Claim your LinkedIn business page and make sure the messages here reflect those on your website.
2. Improve your online reviews
Candidates will be interested in what past and current employers feel about working for your company.
The main places they will go to find this information is Indeed and Glassdoor reviews.
Do you regularly check your reviews? Do you know what your rating is and what people are saying about your company?
Get your current employees to write reviews this will provide a balance with any negative reviews.
Make sure you respond to all reviews. Thank them for their feedback, acknowledge any issues and address as needed. Remember potential candidates will be reading your reply as well. This is not about confrontation and proving points, it could be a simple case of acknowledging their feelings and discuss what has been put in place to prevent the situation happening again.
3. Social media strategy
The objective of this strategy is to showcase what a great place your company is to work for.
Make sure you are posting across all social media platforms to reach a wider audience.
Post content that showcases your company at its very best, such as social events, company wins, promotions, etc.
Get people to engage with posts, like, share and follow so that the messages are spread further afield.
